Felivelife.org Introduces Gogebic Range Calendar

For the Gogebic Range community of Iron County, WI and Gogebic County, MI, the challenge isn’t finding something to do, it’s trying to find a place to learn about everything going on!

Iron County UW-Extension and partners proudly present felivelife.org, a new community tool to find a wide range of community events.  Posting events is easy, and we encourage groups to give it a try and let us know what you think.

This project has been a long time coming, and it rides the waves of previous efforts to highlight the many things the Gogebic Range has to offer to residents and visitors.

  • When Will Andresen was the Community Resource Development Educator with Iron County UW-Extension (2002-2016), he worked with the community to create the “Gogebic Range Next Generation Initiative,” in order to retain and attract young people in the Gogebic Range.  One outcome of the initiative was the creation of a website, felivelife.com, which featured the community’s assets like outdoor recreation and safe neighborhoods.  The website launched in 2010.
  • From 2011-2016 other Iron County UW-Extension Educators (Andrea Newby, Joy Schelble, and later Amy Nosal) were working with the community to develop coalition strategies that could improve the well-being of Gogebic Range residents.  Their review of community input showed a need to help residents become better aware of community events in the area, and that was the inspiration to revitalize the felivelife.com website with a Gogebic Range community calendar.
  • Andrea Newby and Amy Nosal, along with Megan Martell (MSU Extension) and Jackie Powers (community member extraordinaire) established the beginning of felivelife.org.  Funding from the previous coalition project was used to hire professional web designer Al Estola.
  • Soon more partners joined the effort, including the Ironwood Chamber of Commerce, the City of Ironwood, the Hurley Chamber of Commerce, and Ryan Wood (community member extraordinaire), to help complete the website’s revitalization and initiate its first introduction to the community.

So, please enjoy this new resource and let us know how to make it even better!  Feedback can be submitted to Amy Nosal (amy.nosal@wisc.edu).
