The Iron County 4-H program is seeking a qualified nurse to work during the week of Iron County Summer Youth Camp. The camp nurse monitors any health issues of campers as indicated on the health forms submitted by the parents or guardians. They will schedule prescription distributions, as indicated by the parents or guardians. The camp nurse will also let the camp director (4-H Youth Development Educator, Neil Klemme) know if there is any issue that has arisen during the week of camp, in the event that a parent or guardian needs to be contacted. The camp nurse will stay in a designated cabin at Trail’s End Youth Camp that includes sleeping area for sick or injured youth. The camp nurse will review all camper health forms and be aware of any health concerns included in the camper paperwork. Other responsibilities include:
- Supervising children when needed during camp sessions, always providing for the safety and well-being of each camp participants.
- Being able and willing to treat each camper, staff person, and peers with respect and dignity always.
- Showing a genuine concern for children by communicating, advising, assisting, and establishing a warm, friendly relationship with them.
- Demonstrating a willingness to work as a member of a team with other staff persons, teens, and adults, and under the supervision, guidance, direction, and leadership of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Division of Extension staff in charge of the camping program.
- Being familiar with the health needs of the specific camp age groups represented in the camp setting and work to assist young children in meeting these needs and interests.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the camp director in charge of the camp.
- Maintain radio contact with camp director during camp program. If an emergency arises camp director and junior directors need to be reached in case of emergency.
- Must be able to assist with homesick campers.
- Must be aware of emergency procedures and work with the Camp Director to take action in case any emergency should arise.
DATES: The camp nurse is required to be on hand Monday, July 19 – Friday, July 23, 2021 (camp officially begins Tuesday, July 20th)
PAY: $1000
QUALIFICATIONS: RN is not required for this camp, but this is the preferred qualification to be able to respond if serious issues arise at camp.
