The Wisconsin Master Gardener Program will be celebrating Master Gardener Volunteer Week April 5-9, 2021!
Master Gardener Volunteers are an important part of University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension Iron County.  Volunteers make a positive difference in our communities.  Through hours of community service by answering diagnostic questions, educating the public on horticultural topics, growing and donating food to local pantries, beautifying community spaces, conducting workshops, and more, these volunteers work tirelessly to make our communities an incredible place to live.

Growing Tomatoes in Cool Climates

A fresh off the vine homegrown ripe tomato is the pinnacle of many folks’ gardening season but getting tomatoes to ripen in our northern climate can be tricky some years. Join Darrin Kimbler, Extension Iron County’s Agriculture Educator and the Mercer Library on Wednesday, March 24 at 10:00 am for a Growing Tomatoes in Cool Climates virtual Zoom class. Planning a Seed Saving Garden

Join UW-Madison Extension Iron County’s Darrin Kimbler and Mercer Library on Wednesday, March 4 at 10 am for a Planning a Seed Saving Garden virtual Zoom class. Are you interested in saving your vegetable seeds from year to year for your garden? Maybe you want to create your own heirloom vegetables to pass down to your family? We will be discussing common vegetable: life cycles, pollination requirements, isolation distances and the “sneaky” problem plants. Pre-registration is required!

Extension Iron County Committee Update

With much of the Extension Iron County programming being affected by COVID-19, the decision was made to put the July Iron County Extension Education Committee meeting on hold. Kimbler Joins Extension Iron County as Agriculture Educator

UW-Madison Division of Extension Iron County welcomes Darrin Kimbler as the Agriculture Educator for Iron County. Darrin started in this role on January 1, 2019. Darrin has been working in the Iron County Extension office for more than three years as the county Horticulture Assistant and Horticulture Educator. Congratulations Darrin!
