Extension Iron County to Offer Fall Horticulture Seminars

Join Extension Iron County Horticulture Educator, Bruce Spangenberg, as he plans to offer FREE in-person horticulture seminars in October with two locations to choose from. Pre-registration is required, as space is limited.

Registration for each seminar can be done by completing the online pre-registration forms linked below or you can also call the Extension office to register over the phone by calling 715-561-2695.

Success with Soils & Composting

Good soil conditions are key for gardening success. Essential components of soils and how various amendments and fertilizer applications impact soil conditions for plant growth will be covered. Learn what you can do to ensure you have optimum soil conditions in your yard and garden. Compost is one of the better soil amendments – discussion will also include the fundamentals to make your own backyard compost.

Ornamental Grasses for Northwoods Landscapes

Landscape use of ornamental grasses has surged in popularity in recent years. There are several species, both native and non-native, that make good choices for landscape use in northern Wisconsin.  Fall is a great time to view them in area landscapes and make plans to add them to your yard next season!

Every growing season brings pests and problems; this growing season was favorable for several foliage diseases and pests like spongy moth, among others. Learn more about plant problems we saw in 2024 and ways to manage them in 2025. Discussion continues with how to prepare yard and garden plantings for winter.
