Iron County 4-H to Offer Day Camps in June and August

As families are gearing up for the end of the school year, Extension Iron County and Iron County 4-H would like to like share three Day Camp opportunities for youth in the community to participate in. Our Summer Assistants, Jackie and Emmie will be taking the lead on STEM Day Camp in June and 4-H Youth Development Educator, Neil Klemme, is taking the lead on a Babysitter Training in August!

Babysitter Training

DATE: Tuesday, August 22 – Friday, August 25
TIME: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
LOCATION: TBD
REGISTRATION LIMIT: 15 Iron & Gogebic County youth, ages 11+
COST: $50
*Snack, lunch, supplies included. Please bring a water bottle.

*If you need financial assistance, we will be offering two $25 scholarships to help offset the cost of this program. Scholarships are need based and will be awarded on a first come basis.

During the week of Babysitter Training, youth will have the chance to learn the ins and outs of babysitting; how to change diapers, make healthy snacks, understand different age groups, and how to handle business matters. These future babysitters will also learn about home safety and first aid techniques, like CPR and the Heimlich maneuver. By the end of the training, participants will receive business cards, a course certificate and their CPR certification.

STEM Camp

DATE: Tuesday, June 20 – Friday, June 23
TIME: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
LOCATION: Tues-Thus, Kimball Community Center
Friday, Iron County Courthouse Main Meeting Room
REGISTRATION LIMIT: 15 Iron County youth, grades 3-6 (2022-23 school year)
COST: $50
*Snack, lunch, supplies included. Please bring a water bottle.

*If you need financial assistance, we will be offering two $25 scholarships to help offset the cost of this program. Scholarships are need based and will be awarded on a first come basis.

STEM Camp is a great way for youth to engage with science early on, while gaining hands-on experience with different fields of science, math, engineering, and technology. Projects include: plant propagation, fun with food chemistry, and 3-D printing something of their very own.
