2022-2023 Iron County 4-H Members and Leaders Recognized

Celebrating Another Successful 4-H Year!

2022-2023 Iron County 4-H members and leaders were recognized for their achievements at the annual Iron County 4-H achievement banquet, which took place at the Kimball Community Center on Sunday, October 15, 2023. The celebration started with an awards ceremony where members and leaders were presented certificates and project pins, followed by a dinner catered by Ratkowski’s Catering & Bakery.

Iron County 4-H Youth Development Educator, Neil Klemme discussed the success of the 4-H program and thanked the volunteers for all they do in mentoring and guiding youth members who participate in the program. Iron County 4-H youth members from each club assisted Klemme in presenting the certificates and awards.

It was also a great time for 4-H members who participated in statewide and national 4-H trips to share what they had learned and enjoyed. Iron County 4-H Green Team member, Serena Tauer, shared some details about her experience at National 4-H Conference in Washington D.C., while Kasey Klemme, Braeden Klemme, Michael Wiita and Brian Geach sharing details about their experiences attending Fall Forum, Advanced Space Academy, and American Spirit East. They also thanked the Iron County 4-H Leaders Association for their support in making it possible for them to attend these trips, by covering all or a portion of their registration fees.

Klemme also spoke about longtime leader, Carol Alonen, who passed away months after being awarded a 30-Year Volunteer Achievement Award at last year’s 4-H Achievement Night banquet. Klemme stated that while Carol’s knowledge, commitment, and guidance are missed, he praised the Penokee Range Livestock Club for their resilience during such a difficult time, thanking the leaders and members for their hard work during such a tough year.

Area businesses, organizations and individuals who supported the 2023 pie auction, silent auction and livestock auctions are also highlighted in the program, in addition to a tribute page dedicated to Carol Alonen.
